Score 90/100 · Drink 2012-2019, Antonio Galloni, Wine Advocate, Apr 2012

The 2009 Morey St. Denis Les Loups blossoms onto the palate with generous dark red fruit, dried flowers, licorice and tobacco. It shows lovely fleshiness and an up-front personality ideally suited for drinking over the next few years. Sweet floral, minty notes resonate on the finish. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2019. I found the 2009s from Clos des Lambrays showed much better from bottle than they did when I tasted them from barrel. Importer: Peter Weygandt, Unionville, PA; tel. (610) 486-0800

Rather obvious oak on the nose. Overlays the fruit. Something almost metallic about it. Hard work. It may be perverse of me to prefer the village wine but I really love it! Whereas this comes with a frown rather than a smile... (JR)

Good medium red. Highly spicy aromas of black fruits, flowers, pepper, mocha and woodsmoke. Then rich, strong and sweet, with spice, pepper and forest floor elements currently holding the upper hand over primary fruit. This really spreads out to coat the palate. Finishes long and classically dry, with peppery but subtle tannins. Domaine des Lambrays is producing less and less of this premier cru, as there's now less young-vines juice from the Clos to declassify. There will be just five barrels of this wine in 2009.
