Score 91/100 · Drink 2013-2019, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Apr 2012

Denis Bachelet's 2009s showed better from bottle than they did from barrel. This is a gorgeous set of wines. The 2009 Côte de Nuits Villages is less perfumed than the 2010 tasted alongside it, but compensates for that with extraordinary purity and finesse in its dark fruit. It shows gorgeous depth and richness all the way through to the supple, inviting finish. This is a very typical 2009 with terrific overall balance.

Good bright red-ruby. Rather tight nose hints at blackberry, licorice and violet pastille. Densely packed, juicy and firm, with notes of blackberry, licorice, spices and fresh blood. The persistent, ripely tannic finish leaves behind a lovely violet perfume. Bachelet notes that this cuvee is always an assemblage of low and high vineyards.

The 2009 Côte de Nuits-Villages is another rich, explosive wine. This shows notable intensity, although most of the wine's appeal is in its up-front juiciness.
