Tasting notes
The 2003 vintage is one that throws up all sorts of wonders throughout France and, in theory, should be decent at best. In practice, 2003 Krug is a winner. Ripe and gamey, yet still unbelievably fresh, and an almost red wine-like character to its complexity, this is a very special wine. Quite, quite lovely and an absolute treat.

ID 113015. Disgorged winter 2012-13 . 46% Pinot Noir, 29% Chardonnay, 25% Pinot Meunier. Named ‘Vivacious Radiance’ at Krug. A truly unique year with particularly challenging circumstances. The first harvest was on 23 August, the earliest since 1822. Pale gold. Pungent nose. Very tight. Hint of putty on the nose. Opens out on the palate. Masses to chew on. Real concentration. Perfect for drinking now. Dry but complete. Intellectual and great balance. Very impressive. (JR)
ID 115023. Broad, enveloping cloud of a bouquet. Rich and sweeter than most with a sort of velvety texture. Not enormously long but lovely. (JR)
Code 113015. 46% Pinot Noir, 29% Chardonnay, 25% Pinot Meunier. Disgorged winter 2012. Tasted blind. Very impressive and intense. Savoury and fine. Surely an even vintage? Pretty neat and youthful on the end. Really neat and bright. 2006 base? (JR)
About the producer

Krug is a remarkable Champagne House which only makes prestige cuvées. The wines – with their distinctive rich, complex, oxidative style – are some of the region’s best.
