Tasting notes
The brilliant 2003 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Renaissance is 85% Grenache and 15% new oak-aged Mourvedre. Its dense purple color is accompanied by glorious aromas of creosote, crushed rocks, blueberries, blackberries, and flowers. With fabulous concentration, moderately high tannin, and a long, heady finish, this structured, big Chateauneuf requires another 3-4 years of bottle age. It should last for 15+ years. The second vintage for the cuvee and a bigger, richer version of the classic cuvee, the 2003 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Renaissance offers lots of black and blue fruits, pepper, violets, licorice and spice on the nose. Full-bodied, loaded with fruit, concentrated and hedonistic, it has a hint of rusticity to its tannin, but should have no issues holding for at least another 4-5 years. Sep 2015, www.robertparker.com
