The 2005 Haut-Condissas has an impressive, engaging bouquet with copious blackberry, wild strawberry, incense and orange blossom scents that are neatly entwined with the 100% new oak. The palate is unsurprisingly much better than the previous vintage with succulent ripe black fruit, veins of tobacco and white pepper, structured and yet enrobed with plenty of fruit so that you barely notice it. What you do feel is the very sustained length and the spicy residue that lingers long after the wine has departed. This is clearly the best Haut-Condissas up until this point. Tasted at the Haut-Condissas vertical at the property.

The top cuvée from proprietor Jean Guyon, this 2005 is a blend of 60% Merlot and the rest Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. This cuvée benefitted from the oenology advice of two of Europe’s finest oenological minds, Riccardo Cotarella and Dr. Alain Raynaud. Slightly more tannic than most vintages tend to be, this dark ruby/plum/garnet wine is a classic northern Médoc with nice, ripe, concentrated black and red currant fruit, cedar wood, spice box and black cherries. Drink it over the next 5-7 years.

Saturated, bright ruby-red. Lovely lift to the aromas of cassis, Indian spices, minerals, graphite and truffle. Juicy, spicy and firmly built, with excellent cut to the ripe flavors of black fruits, licorice and minerals. A seriously structured wine but rather unforthcoming today and in need of aging. This may well merit an outstanding rating with seven or eight years of cellaring.
