The 1962 Pontet Canet feels a bit enervated on the nose compared to its peers. Dusty and lacking fruit. The palate is better but is hampered by dry tannins and (again) a shortfall of fruit concentration, attenuating on the tobacco finish. This was not a golden era from this Pauillac estate, and in a way, though there remains an essence of drinkability, this 1962 reflects that. Tasted at the Académie du Vin dinner in Bordeaux.
