Syrah, Mourvèdre, Carignan, Cinsault, Grenache. Round and comforting and so healthy tasting. Lovely stuff. VGV (JR)
The 2010 Sequillo Red Blend is a coming together of classic Rhone varieties. It has a lovely bouquet of blackberry, raspberry leaf, Provencal herbs, iodine and lavender that is just beautifully defined. The palate is medium-bodied with very fine tannins, a life-affirming sense of symmetry. It is so elegant and natural with superb minerality on the finish. This is cut from such a different cloth to older vintages – far more refined and complex. Drink now-2020. (Not yet released) Eben Sadie, the doyen and “spiritual leader” of Swartland, keeps Sequillo Cellars separate from Sadie Family Wines in order that they both stand on an equal platform and this includes distribution, whereby Eben has opted to seek an alternative distributor. Both current releases of Sequillo are well worth seeking out as some of South Africa’s finest, most intellectual wines. Importer: although Broadbent Selections are imported Sadie Family wines, at the moment the Sequillo is seeking what you might call a “suitable partner.”
