Score 89/100 · Drink 1994-2009, Robert Parker, Apr 1994

Currado (or Vietti, as most people mistakenly call him) has turned out four superb Barolos in 1989 which possess subtle differences in their flavor and aromatic profiles. The softest, most flattering is the 1989 Barolo Lazzarito. Voluptuous, rich, and concentrated, with a textbook Barolo nose of rose petals, tar, and sweet cherry fruit intermingled with scents of smoky tobacco, the wine offers excellent concentration, full body, moderate tannin, and a long, lusty finish. While approachable, it possesses the most precocious personality of these four wines and is best drunk within the first 15 years of life. Alfredo Currado is one of the great gentlemen of Piedmont, so it is delightful to share with readers my enthusiastic reviews of his 1989 and 1990 offerings.
