The 2001 Cotes du Rhone La Reserve still retains some lovely cherry notes alongside hints of truffle and decaying leaves. Full-bodied, silky and long, it probably should've been consumed several years ago, but it remains a highly enjoyable experience. Drink up.

(mostly old-vines grenache, with syrah and a bit of mourvedre) Bright ruby-red. Slightly reduced, musky aromas of redcurrant, smoked meat and mocha. Lush, generous flavors of red and blue fruits; dense and silky but less obviously sweet than the regular cuvee. Finishes with great suavity and a late note of bitter chocolate.
