Tasting notes
Pale yellow. Vibrant, talc-accented aromas of fresh citrus fruits, green apple and white flowers, with deeper honey and nougat nuances emerging with aeration. Juicy and expansive on the palate, offering bitter pear skin and tangerine flavors and a hint of sweet butter. This silky, seamless wine finishes with excellent clarity and mineral-driven length.

The NV Brut Nature Les Béguines (Cuvée 2007) is 100% Pinot Meunier made from tiny yields. The wine went into bottle with no filtering or fining and no dosage. This is a magnificent bottle of Champagne, but it will require considerable patience, as today it is tight as a drum. Occasionally hints of hazelnuts, pears and dried apricots come through, and the wine's sheer density and richness are impossible to ignore. The wine continues to improve with air, hinting at what looks to be a very bright future. The best Les Béguines I have had have been 8-10 years old. Recent bottles of the 2006 have been delicious, but far too young. Disgorged October, 2009.
