Tasting notes
The Vosne-Romanee Beaumonts has a nose reminiscent of the Vosne, but with an added dimension of candied cassis. This oily-textured, medium-to-full bodied wine displays blackberries and dark cherries in its structured yet elegant flavor profile. Powerful, with an exceptionally long finish, it will be at its peak between 2001-2008. The Domaine Jean Grivot is brilliantly run by Jean's son Etienne Grivot. As I mentioned in the introduction to my Cote de Nuits report (Issue #110), he is one of the young vignerons responsible for the higher quality of Burgundy's wines. His 1995s were among the best wines I tasted in the Cote d'Or, bringing together superb balance with thick, concentrated, elegant fruit. Very good medium-deep red. Raspberry, licorice, nuts and spices on the nose, plus a light floral topnote. Concentrated and intensely flavored though still a bit rigid in the mouth. But quite powerfully structured and rich. Long, strong, very fresh back end.
