Score 88/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Mar 2006
Reticent nose hints at black cherry, licorice and herbs. Richer and larger-scaled in the mouth than the Suchots but less obviously sweet and ripe. Today the wine's acids and tannins give the finish a slight dryness. A sample from a second barrel showed sweeter fruit but was rather stubbornly closed, and finished with a similarly spiky impression of acids and tannins that had not yet harmonized. Am I underrating this?
