Score 89-91/100 · Drink 2004, Robert Parker, Jun 1999

Readers looking for luscious whites that are ready to drink the day they are purchased are well-advised to search out this estate's 1997 Chassagne-Montrachet Morgeot. Its lip-smacking aromas of creamy pears and apples, with subtle hints of earth, are followed by an intensely expressive, fat, rather decadent personality. Ripe peaches, clay, hazelnut cream, and salty butter are all intertwined in this medium-to-full-bodied, and plump offering. Anticipated maturity: now-2004. Importers: Classic Wine Imports, Boston, MA; tel (617) 731-6644; and Martin Scott, New York, NY.

Oily aromas of pear and oak char; slightly rustic. Fat and fairly rich, but not especially complex. Rather low in acidity. Best today on the lingering, subtle finish.
