Deeply pitched, smoky aromas of apricot, earth and toasted nuts. Fat and spicy but surprisingly dry, with a lovely light touch. Not especially fleshy but finishes with very good persistence.

The 1999 Macon-Villages from Domaine Emilian Gillet displays beautiful mineral and floral aromas. Medium-bodied, fresh, easygoing, and subtle, it is an appealing mineral and acacia blossom-flavored wine to be drunk over the next 3 years. Importer: Alain Junguenet, Wines of France, Mountainside, NJ, tel (908) 654-6173.
