The 1988 Clos de la Roche Grand Cru came with high expectations, yet this bottle failed to deliver the goods. Mature in color, it has a very floral and tempting nose. However, the palate is grippy and a bit gawky, as if the whole bunch element has never fully assimilated. My feeling is that they may be better bottles than this. Tasted at the La Paulée in Beaune.
