Tasting notes
Big, spicy nose that’s in some ways as creamy as the Yquems. Lively, pungent, broad flavoured and very long. Went extremely well, perhaps because of its freshness, with the cauliflower terrine that accompanied the turbot. (JR)

The medium-bodied and powerful 2000 Gruner Veltliner Smaragd Honivogl is a thick wine with roasted pear and spice aromas. This broad, intense offering is crammed with smoky white fruits whose flavors linger throughout its impressively long finish. Anticipated maturity: 2006-2014. Importer: Vin Divino, Chicago, IL; tel. (773) 334-6700
Harvested in two lots, one at the end of October and the other on November 11, this successfully carries on the tradition of outstanding Honivogel. Insistent pepper and spice never detract from the absolute purity of the fruit, and voluminous, honeyed richness does not overwhelm the clarity or the dynamic sense of fruit-mineral interplay. 2 stars.
