Tasting notes
Palish golden-yellow color. Classic aromas and flavors of citrus zest, white peach, crushed stone and savory flinty minerality, plus a complicating balsamic nuance. At once tactile and smooth, this impeccably balanced Chablis offers superb subtle aromatic complexity on the palate, opening with air to fill the mouth without leaving any impression of weightiness. Not quite velvety in texture but quite fine-grained, this wine is much more fun to drink than the '96 and is still in fine form.

Amazingly fresh and subtle on the nose – smells younger than the 2000s. A hint of grapefruit and honeyed lemon and orange peel but just so youthful. On the palate, mouthfilling, almost unctuous even though there is the classic mineral and savoury texture and flavour and tautness. Unspittable. So fresh, intense and long and with a citrus sweetness though it is bone dry. Makes me think I may have underestimated the longevity of the younger wines. (JH)
