Medium red. Subdued nose hints at chocolate and leather. Superripe, chewy and deep but a bit sullen today. Wilder and more animal than the Clos du Roi, but with very good underlying richness. This, too, offers ripe tannins for a Beaune wine from the 2001 vintage.

Bright red-ruby. Ripe aromas of roasted cherry and earth. Fat, spicy and peppery; in a wilder, more Pommard-like style but could use a bit more verve. Less sweet and more backward than the Clos du Roi, but still hints at a roasted, late-picked flavor. Fairly tannic on the end.
