Tasting notes
Sandrone's 2009 Barolo Cannubi Boschis is ample and generous on the palate, with terrific textural breadth and lovely resonance. Dark cherry, plum, mocha, smoke, licorice, spice and menthol build in the glass. A swath of underlying tannin shapes the wine nicely. At nearly ten years of age, the 2009 is entering the first part of its prime drinking window.

Good deep, bright red. Aromas and flavors of black cherry, licorice and menthol are complicated by balsamic and aromatic herb nuances. Then tighter and earthier on the palate than the 2010, showing excellent density and firm but essentially suave tannins. Finishes with excellent persistence. Here's a 2009 Barolo that demands cellaring. (I rated the library release of the 2005 at 94; its serious toothcoating tannins still call for some patience.)
The single-vineyard 2009 Barolo Cannubi Boschis opens with intense focus and sharpness. Beyond its dark color and bold appearance is a stunning embroidery of delicate floral and wild berry aromas. It’s easy to recognize each distinct layer: licorice, tar, pressed violets, dried mint, white truffle and wet earth. Silky tannins, long and fine, give the wine structure and longevity. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2030. Jun 2013, www.robertparker.com
