The 2001 Barolo Cannubi Boschis is in a beautiful place right now. The aromas are starting to show the early signs of maturity, but there is plenty of fruit and depth in the glass. Sweet, layered and impeccable, the 2001 turns silky and delicate as its sits in the glass. Today my sense is that the 2001 won't be one of the more long-lived vintages. Hints of licorice, dried flowers and new leather are woven into the rich, textured, fabric. This is a great showing for the Cannubi Boschis.

The 2001 Barolo Cannubi Boschis is one of the highlights of the vintage. A gorgeous deep translucent ruby, it presents multi-dimensional aromas of dark fruit, plums, spices, minerals, menthol and eucalyptus that meld seamlessly onto the palate where the wine is packed with rich, round flavors of dark cherries and plums. It shows outstanding depth and length with plenty of chewy, yet fine tannins and a long, caressing, balsamic finish. Supremely elegant and refines, it is a beautiful modern-styled Barolo that is hard to resist today and that will provide much pleasure for years to come.

The 2001 is one of the standouts of the vintage. Utterly convincing, it shows a very spiced nose, with nuances of menthol and flowers with terrific length on the palate. Layered flavors of rich dark cherry fruit, tar and licorice gradually emerge from the glass and complete this magnificent effort. This should start to drink well around age 8-10 and last for at least another decade.
