The delicious 1992 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Cros Parantoux was the surprise of the night, bursting with aromas of peonies, orange zest, spices and sweet, plumy fruit. Medium-bodied, ample and enveloping, it's supple and seamless, with melted tannins and a pure, vibrant core of fruit.
The 1992 Vosne-Romanée Cros Parantoux 1er Cru has a bouquet that deserves hearty applause considering the challenges of the growing season, at least for the reds. It has a beautiful definition, with traces of rose petals infusing the shimmering red fruit and hints of wild hedgerow emerging with time. The palate's sharp acidity reveals that this was a cool growing season with bitter cherry and a touch of strawberry. Its shortfall in complexity is compensated by the tension and freshness that beckons you back for another sip. I wonder how much of Henri Jayer's magic touch contributed to this lovely off-vintage Vosne-Romanée.
