The top cuvee of the estate, the 2006 Chateauneuf du Pape Le Secret des Sabon is a field blend that’s dominated by Grenache (it’s over 95% Grenache). Completely destemmed and aged all in demi-muids, it’s always one of the appellations most profound wines. In 2006 it offers a big, rich, full-bodied, super sexy style, and is about as unctuous and concentrated as they come in the vintage. Revealing fabulous purity in its cassis, licorice, dried flowers and spice-scented bouquet, this beauty is a great drink today, but will certainly continue evolving gracefully for another 15+ years.

One glorious bottle of Châteauneuf, the 2006 Roger Sabon Le Secret des Sabon is a powerhouse wine that is firing on all cylinders! Sporting jaw dropping aromatics of smoky black fruits, raspberries, exotic spice, saddle leather, and crushed flowers, the wine is full-bodied and perfectly built on the palate. Silky, polished, and with loads of ripe tannin on the finish, this is surprisingly accessible and open, yet given the balance and structure, it should have no problem evolving for 15+ years.

Vivid ruby. Knockout nose evokes cherry preserves, blackcurrant, incense, lavender and fresh bay. Deep, sweet and rich but possessing uncanny energy, offering sweet red and dark berry flavors, a velvety texture and great clarity. An exotic floral pastille quality gains strength with air and carries through an endless sappy finish. For a wine this powerful, the focus and balance are striking.

The inky/purple-hued, enormously endowed 2006 Chateauneuf du Pape Le Secret des Sabon is a monster of massive concentration and power. It reveals a suppleness to the tannins as well as a more evolved, accessible personality than the 2007, but, wow, it should keep for 20-25 years. Robert Parker, Wine Advocate October 2008
