Score 95/100 · Drink 2018-2030, Jeb Dunnuck, Wine Advocate, Sep 2015

A sensational wine that's up with the creme de la creme of the appellation, the inky colored 2010 St Joseph Ste Epine was raised in 40-50% new French oak, with the balance in 2- and 3-year-old barrels. It has serious minerality in its graphite, chocolate, blackberry, currants and smoked herb aromas and flavors, and frankly, tastes more like an Hermitage than a St Joseph. Full-bodied, concentrated and rich, with big tannin and a great finish, it needs to be forgotten for 3-4 years but will cruise for 20 years or more.

Dark purple. Heady aromas and flavors of candied dark berries, violet pastille and cola, with a spicy note gaining strength in the glass. Fleshy and expansive, with superb finishing clarity and subtle, fully integrated tannins. Approachable now but there's plenty of depth here to warrant cellaring.

Opaque purple. Mineral-accented black raspberry and cherry on the hugely aromatic nose. Sweet, penetrating red and dark berry preserve flavors show excellent depth and energy, with a late note of candied licorice adding a darker tone. The finish features excellent focus and cut, and resonating sweetness.
