Tasting notes
The 1994 Cuvee Vieilles Vignes offers a dark ruby/garnet color, followed by a fragrant, flamboyant nose of Provencal herbs, smoked meats, fruitcake, and cherry jam. Full-bodied, with rich, chewy fruit, this soft, round, generously endowed wine should drink well for 10-12 years. It is a hedonistic, up-front, admirably endowed Chateauneuf du Pape. Anticipated maturity: now-2003. Last tasted 6/96.

I have noticed in the past that Jean-Luc Mayard's wines tend to show better after bottling. The 1994 Chateauneuf du Pape Vieilles Vignes offers a dark ruby/garnet color, followed by a fragrant, flamboyant nose of Provencal herbs, smoked meats, fruitcake, and cherry jam. Full-bodied, with rich, chewy fruit, this soft, round, generously endowed wine should drink well for 10-12 years. It is a hedonistic, up-front, admirably endowed Chateauneuf du Pape. This wine was tasted between June 1 and June 16, 1996. Aug 1996, www.robertparker.com
