Tasting notes
The 1998 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Vieilles Vignes is more evolved, with plenty of bricking at its rim. Giving up lots of beef blood, iron, garrigue and fully mature fruit, it shows the classic firmness and focus that this cuvee always has, and I suspect always will. Drink it.

Bright deep ruby-red. Extremely fresh, rather Burgundian red and black fruit aromas complicated by floral and smoky elements. Opulent and seamless in the mouth, with compellingly vibrant red fruit and spice flavors. At once creamy and precise. As in the above samples, the tooth-coating tannins are substantial, but here they are quite fine. Very long, vibrant finish. My style of Chateauneuf.
