Tasting notes
Good full red. Wild, ripe aromas of raspberry, coffee, mocha and game, complicated by musky soil tones. Fat, rich and sweet, with smoky red plum, cherry and earth flavors dominating. This broad, rich wine remains just this side of heavy. Finishes with ripe tannins and very good length.

The 2009 Morey St. Denis en la Rue de Vergy presents gorgeous delineation in its vibrant, perfumed fruit. Dark cherries, spices, licorice and white flowers are some of the nuances that take shape in the glass in this refined, subtle Morey.

Virgile Lignier’s 2009s show notable intensity and ripeness, but also preserve quite a bit of freshness through the use of whole clusters, which reach as much as 100% in two wines. The Bourgogne and Chambolle were bottled in December 2010. I tasted all of the other wines from tank. Bottling was scheduled for the end of March 2011. Showy, opulent nose. Refreshing and lively, bright and well defined, some slight chewiness from the tannins, and a bitterness just on the finish. (RH)
