Poured from magnum at a retrospective tasting going back to 1999 held at Gramercy Tavern in NYC. Still-tight tannins have held this wine’s fruit fresh: it’s still sweet with dark-red-cherry fruit, with notes of liquorice and spice. Not as complex as most tasted during this retrospective. (TQT)

Big, bold and ripe but still concentrated. Sangiovese does not seem the dominant influence so not intensely local but capable of giving a lot of hedonistic pleasure. (JR)
Good full medium red-ruby. Raspberry, truffle and nuts on the nose. Sweet, fat and pliant; at once full and elegant in the mouth. Ripe flavors of currant, strawberry, tobacco and truffle. Finishes with substantial dusty tannins and a lingering note of tobacco.
Very full, sweet, ripe and easy, but not desperately local. A slightly facile drink. (JR)
