Score 98/100 · Drink 2024-2040, Jane Anson, Inside Bordeaux, Jun 2024

A vintage that I have long adored at L'Evangile, delivering once again here, effortless ripe berry fruit, torrefied coffee beans, raspberry puree and white pepper spice. Mouthwatering and moreish. This was just three years since the Rothschilds had become sole owners in 1998, after a parternship with Madame Ducasse since 1990. Jean-Pascal Vazart technical director. Located on gravel soils over heavy clay on the border with St Emilion, aged in 70% new oak, 58% of the crop in this wine, 45hl/h yield.

Served blind with Eglise Clinet 2001. Bright crimson with a rusty rim. This was drier and more refined. Polished and refreshing. Great balance and appetising. Great stuff. An elegant Pomerol. (JR)

Dark ruby. Very ripe but gamey rather than pure. Meaty, savoury. But very dry on the finish. (JR)
