Tasting notes
The 2001 Viré Clessé Cuvée Botrytis, which carries around 80gms/l residual sugar, has a very succinct and refined bouquet with scents of wilted yellow flowers, honeysuckle, jasmine, a touch of petrol and Mirin – this is very complex and sophisticated. The palate is rich and viscous on the entry, not a million miles away from a fine Barsac to be honest, but the mellifluous texture is deftly counterpoised by the keening acidity. The dash of white pepper on the finish concludes everything in exquisite fashion. What a wonderful sweet Mâconnais. Oct 2014, www.robertparker.com, Drink: 2014-2025
