A big step up over the classic cuvee, the 2006 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee du Quet is a blockbuster blend of 65% Grenache and 35% Mourvèdre that spent 14 months in tank and foudre. A big, rich, unctuous and concentrated effort, it offers lots of black raspberry, currants, olive paste and a kiss of graphite on the nose. Needing time in the glass to show at its best, enjoy it anytime over the coming decade.

A fair click better than I remember, the 2006 Mas de Boislauzon Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée du Quet, a blend of 65% Grenache and 35% Mourvèdre that sees a year in oak, is loaded with dark fruit aromas that are intermixed with licorice, meat, roasted herb, and subtle leather. With big, lush fruit on the palate, the wine is beautifully balanced, structured and shows serious length on the finish. Very impressive, this holds onto its Southern Rhône roots while at the same time showing ripe fruit and solid structure. Drink over the next 15 years.

Dark red. Pungent, spicy scents of red berry liqueur and kirsch, along with deeper mocha and licorice qualities. Energetic and gently sweet, with deep red and dark berry flavors underscored by zesty minerals and firmed by dusty tannins. Gains weight and power with air, finishing spicy and broad, with excellent sappy cling and a strong echo of dark fruit. I'd let this one rest for a few years.
