Tasting notes
Beautifully complex and aromatic, the 2009 Châteauneuf Du Pape from Vieux Télégraphe offers up classic spicy red fruits, tapenade, menthol, and peppery garrigue that changes every time you come back to the glass. These all carry to a medium to full-bodied Châteauneuf with a wonderful sense of purity, ripe, polished tannins, no sensation of weight or heaviness, and a beautiful finish. All from the La Crau lieu-dit in the southeast region of the appellation and raised in foudre, it has another 10-15 years of prime drinking and is a quintessential expression of this fabulous terroir and estate. Drink: 2025-2039.

A super showing for this wine, the 2009 Chateauneuf du Pape is meaty and intense, with black olives and black cherries equally sharing the spotlight. Full-bodied, rich and velvety, with a long finish, it may be just a bit coarse in texture, but it delivers happiness in the glass. Drink now or hold; it should drink well for at least another decade.
Vivid ruby. Explosive raspberry and blackberry aromas, sustained by hints of star anise and rose; showing excellent clarity and energy. Silky in texture and alluringly sweet, with palate-coating red and dark berry flavors and no rough edges. Finishes with impressive persistence and lingering sweetness, repeating the dark berry note. I really like this wine's seamless texture.
