Tasting notes
Holding up remarkably well, the 1999 Chateauneuf du Pape shows some scents of decay, including hints of dead leaves and cigar, but it remains silky and nicely balanced on the medium to full-bodied palate. It finishes long, on notes of dried cherries and black tea. Drink up over the next few years.

Very sweet and thick and dense. With some quite dry tannins and lots of alcohol. A little rustic. (JR)
The best bottle of this I have had to date, the 1999 Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe Châteauneuf-du-Pape La Crau is drinking at point and possesses gorgeous aromatics of spiced meat, leather, and mature Grenache fruit. Medium bodied, balanced, clean and with a fantastic texture, this should continue to drink beautifully over the next 8 to 10 years.
