(tasted from barrel): Good pale yellow with green highlights. Pure but restrained nose hints at underripe pineapple, lime and menthol. Denser and fatter than the Meursault Perrieres, with a more accessible sweetness making it easier to taste today. The sound lemony acidity here is masked by the power of the wine. Finishes very ripe, rich, minerally and long. This should offer outstanding aging potential in the context of the vintage; I wouldn't think about opening a bottle for at least six years.

A strikingly pure nose is composed of green apple, white flower and spice aromas that also evidence a hint of grapefruit. There is excellent intensity to the delicious, round and stony flavors that are among the ripest in the range yet remain wonderfully vibrant and reasonably well-detailed on the long, dry and lingering finish. This is deceptively forward for a young Chevalier yet one that should repay medium-term cellaring. Tasted: Jun 11, 2013. Drink: 2021+
