1996 Louis Roederer Cristal

Tasting notes
Deep, bronzy gold. Fully mature on the nose and certainly very complex but it did taste like a 1996 champagne, being high in acidity and very slightly dry on the finish. I wouldn’t keep it too much longer, or not this bottle anyway. (JR)

Fresh, linear, tight and focused. In appearance this looks like a champagne with loads of age, yet the palate displays precision and drive. Has a hint of a floral note on the nose, counteracting the restrained biscuity/leesy characters. Lovely champagne – very fine and still with a long, long way to go. (AWH)
Still pale straw. Really exciting interest on the nose. Hints of gingerbread and electricity(!). Such creamy texture and some baked apples but real grip and tension. This is just coming into its own – demonstrating how long one should ideally wait for Cristal… Great undertow of both fruit and structure.
Tasted blind. Disgorged 2002. From a private individual; stored at Octavian since purchase from UK importer. Just very slightly flatter than the other sample so I assumed, correctly, it was the bottle. Lots of acidity. (JR)
