Score 90/100 · Drink 2004-2016, Robert Parker, Apr 2004

This wine is made by the brilliant Libourne/St.-Emilion doctor and château owner, Dr. Alain Raynaud. This is his first venture in southern France, and the results are very impressive. This offering is personally made by Dr. Raynaud from vineyards owned by Cave de l'Abbé Rous. As of May, 2004, there is no American importer, probably because Collioure is not a household name for most American wine consumers, which is a shame. This 15,000 bottle blend of 25% Syrah, 25% Mourvèdre, 35% Grenache, and 15% Carignan reveals a complex bouquet of white flowers, blueberries, blackberries, melted licorice, and minerals. Full-bodied, with velvety tannin, excellent purity, and surprising elegance for a wine with 14.5% natural alcohol, this beauty can be drunk now or cellared for 10-12 years.
