The 2001 Lafon-Rochet has a delightful bouquet with more fruit intensity, brambly red fruit, rose petals, touches of sous-bois , open and well-defined. The palate is medium-bodied with soft tannins, very lithe with fleshy red fruit, maybe missing a little structure on the finish, but for sheer drinkability, this comes recommended. Tasted at the Lafon-Rochet vertical at the property.

Big and bloody on the nose. Lots of fruit and suppleness. A very ambitious wine. Good stuff. Fills all the corners of the palate. Very long and powerful with a strong expression of Saint-Estèphe. Very clean finish. (JR)
Very deep crimson and rather self-consciously modern. Hints of chocolate and a very very chunky, chewy texture. Awkward now but it may get there to please those who like brawn. (JR)
