Score 87-89/100 · Drink 2003-2011, Robert Parker, Feb 2003

Jaboulet's 2001 Chateauneuf du Pape is one of their better examples over recent vintages. It is very Provencal with its notes of lavender, ground pepper, and herbes de Provence. This medium to full-bodied, spicy 2001 exhibits abundant quantities of kirsch in addition to an open-knit expansiveness. Drink it over the next 7-8 years. (tasted from cuve) Medium red. Deep aromas of currant, prune, smoke, game, pepper, spices and menthol. Sweet, dense and supple, with firm, nicely integrated acidity. Finishes with solid tannins. This should turn out well if it gets a gentle bottling.
