More elegant and seamless than the rich, concentrated Valbelle, the 2005 Gigondas Hominis Fides is another serious wine from this estate that’s drinking beautifully. Full-bodied and rich, yet seamless and silky, with ultra-fine tannin, it exhibits classic black raspberry, currants, creosote and licorice aromas and flavors, beautiful Provencal charm, and a balanced, pure, hard to resist style. It too has another decade of longevity.

Saturated ruby. Strongly perfumed nose offers a vibrant display of smoky red and dark fruits, musky herbs and cracked pepper. Dense and chewy, offering deep bitter cherry and blackcurrant flavors framed by powerful tannins. Delivers a solid wallop of kirsch on the finish, along with gripping tannins and an echoing note of licorice. This needs some time. I'd have picked this blind as a top-end northern Rhone wine.
Opaque ruby. Full-throttle boysenberry and cassis aromas are impressively pungent and focused, and show a strong graphite quality that reminded me of a northern Rhone wine. Firm minerality adds complexity to the ripe dark berry flavors, with firm tannins adding support. Finishes spicy and focused, with striking intensity and length.
