Tasting notes
From an incredibly hot vintage, the 2003 Domaine Brusset Gigondas Les Hauts de Montmirail is an outstanding effort that is drinking extremely well at the moment. Loaded with meaty, savory aromas of roasted herbs, melted licorice, and duck fat, this has a core of sweet plum and blackberry styled fruit that emerges with air. Round and supple on the palate, with a beautiful sweetness of fruit, a voluptuous texture, and ripe tannin on the finish, this benefits from a decant, and will continue to shine for upwards of another decade. The overall black fruited and roasted herb profile here speaks to the vintage, but this estate managed to get full phenolic ripeness and a sweetness of tannin that’s hard to come by. Very well done and worth seeking out.
