The 1988 Blanc de Blancs Brut Vintage from Ruinart is now fully mature on the nose. Initially, it is quite resinous and lacks the delineation of the 1988 Krug, though it meliorates with aeration, developing intriguing lemon curd, candle wax and light marzipan scents. The palate is pretty and elegant, built around a keen line of acidity and a precise mandarin and lemon verbena finish. There is a delicacy about this Ruinart that is very appealing. Tasted at the 1988 Bordeaux dinner at Noble Rot Mayfair.

Highly nuanced, rather exotic aromas of roasted coffee, smoked meat, bacon fat, herbs, earth, lemon and truffle. Alternately smells like great white Burgundy and sulfidey Kistler chardonnay. Fresh and dry in the mouth, but currently rather unforthcoming. Then the aromatic notes repeat on the long, dry, suave finish.
