Good full red. Complex if laid-back nose offers black cherry, menthol, spices, minerals, dried flowers and mocha. Juicy, sappy and dry, with good breadth to the flavors of red cherry and spices. Chewy but light on its feet. Finishes with fine-grained tannins and good energy and length.

Deep ruby-red. Smoked meat, black cherry, leather, minerals and mocha on the nose. Lush and sweet on the palate, with noteworthy concentration to the redcurrant and smoke flavors. Offers a nice combination of structure and sweetness, finishing with supple tannins. (My sample of the Chaffots was distinctly stunted and a bit aggressively dry; Magnien told me it had recently been racked with exposure to air due to reduction and was in a tired stage.)
