About as Provencal as they come (which is a trait of the vintage), the 2009 Chateauneuf du Pape is comprised of 80% concrete-tank-aged Grenache and the balance Syrah and Mourvedre that was raised in barrel. It sports a vibrant purple color to go with fabulous notes of blackberries, raspberries, crushed flowers, incense and Provencal garrigue. Full-bodied, concentrated, layered and sexy, it has tons of personality and will drink nicely through 2024.

(90% grenache and 10% syrah): Ruby-red. Red berry and cherry aromas are complicated by notes of anise, woodsmoke and dried lavender. Round and sweet on the palate, offering juicy red fruit flavors that put on weight with air. Finishes smooth and sappy, with resonating spiciness and very good persistence.

A blend of 90% Grenache and 10% Syrah that’s aged all in tank, the 2009 Domaine de Cristia Châteauneuf-du-Pape is an outstanding wine that has an upfront, round, fleshy profile as well as plenty of southern Rhône typicity. Showing loads of concentrated, ripe blackberry, spice, herbs de Provence, and subtle tar and chocolate aromas and flavors, this medium to full-bodied wine possesses a supple feel, good freshness, and plenty of length on the finish. It should continue to shine over the coming 8-10 years.

Bright ruby. Fresh cherry and red berry aromas complemented by Moroccan spices and anise. Juicy and brisk, accented by complex flavors of red fruits, licorice and spice cake. Finishes with silky tannins and lingering floral and cured tobacco notes. Already showing complexity, but this wine is balanced to age.
