Tasting notes
The 2001 Chateauneuf du Pape exhibits a deep purple color along with aromas of toasty vanilla, melted licorice, chocolate, black cherries, and blackberry liqueur. Full-bodied, layered, and high in tannin, it should be at its finest between 2007-2017. Importer: Martin Scott Wines, Little Neck, NY; tel. (516) 327-0808 and Stacole Fine Wines, Boca Raton, FL; tel. (not destemmed; 90% grenache) Full ruby-red. Brooding, inky aromas of kirsch, cassis and licorice. Juicy and penetrating; a moderately dense wine that offers a roasted aspect but also excellent freshness. Finishes very long, with dusty, toothcoating tannins and a note of bitter chocolate.
