Tasting notes
The 1998 Chateauneuf du Pape has turned out to be a seductive, gorgeously classy example of the appellation. Notes of cured olives, herbes de Provence, leather, soy, smoked meats, and black cherries soar from the glass of this complex, evolved wine. In the mouth, there is a combination of strength, elegance, full body, and purity. It is a sexy, complete, generously-endowed, plump effort to drink over the next 12-14 years. The 1998 Chateauneuf du Pape from Domaine Font de Michelle has aged beautifully. A charming, full-bodied, balanced and Provencal effort, it exhibits classic notes of roasted herbs, licorice, fig and coffee bean. Made from 70% Grenache and 10% each of Mourvedre, Syrah and Cinsault that was raised all in foudre, it's fully mature and a joy to drink today, but should hold for a handful of years.
