I’m down to my last few bottles of the 2007 Châteauneuf-du-Pape from Paul Versino, yet have loved every bottle and have no regrets. A quintessential Châteauneuf-du-Pape that offers incredible notes of garrigue, saddle leather, ground pepper and loads of sweet Grenache fruit, this beauty is silky and polished on the palate, with sweet tannin, and a great finish. I’ll finish my remaining bottles over the coming 2-3 years, but it will keep longer.

I’ve always loved the 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape from Paul Versino, and it has drunk well since release. Full-bodied, rich and mouth-filling, with some still-present tannin, it has a core of sweet, ripe cherry fruit, licorice, sweaty saddle leather and garrigue. At the end of the day, I think the tannin will win the battle with the fruit, but this beauty has loads of Provencal charm and will continue drinking nicely for 4-5 years, if not longer.

Vivid ruby. Wild, smoky aromas of dried red berries, kirsch, roasted coffee, cured meat and garrigue Emphatically old school, offering ripe red and dark fruit flavors and strong spicy lift, along with notes of herbs and lavender pastille. Gains weight with air and finishes with lingering warmth, sweetness and echoes of smoke and herbs. Not for those with modern preferences, or those who want a delicate touch.

Slightly grey crimson. Very opulent, overripe aromas, and almost porty. So sweet and alcoholic! Very hot finish – too much so for me. (JR)
