Tasting notes
Versino. Big, spicy, sweet and losing fruit but it keeps the rather chewy tannins which seem to be in the ascendant somehow. Alcohol very obvious on the finish. Far from mellifluous. (JR)

The stunning, dense purple-colored 2000 Chateauneuf du Pape is performing better out of bottle than it did from foudre. Sweet, rich, and full-bodied, with broad, peppery, cassis and black cherry notes intermingled with licorice, incense, and seaweed, this pungent, fragrant, extremely Provencal effort tastes like liqueur of Provence. Drink it over the next 15-16 years. Like so many Chateauneuf du Pape estates, this property has pushed the envelope of quality over recent years thanks to the energy and enthusiasm of owners Jean and Jean-Paul Versino.
