Score 90/100 · Drink 2015-2018, Jeb Dunnuck, Wine Advocate, Aug 2015

Beaurenard's 1998 Chateauneuf du Pape (70% Grenache and 10% each of Syrah, Mourvedre and Cinsault aged in small barrels and foudre) is a beautiful, fully mature red that offers lots of coffee bean, roasted herbs, garrigue and sweet, almost chocolaty fruit. Nicely balanced, medium-bodied and textured, it opens up well with air and is drinking at point.

The regular cuvee from the Coulon family of the 1998 Beaurenard displays loads of licorice, black currant, and chocolate, and is close to full maturity with its medium to full-bodied flavors. Dark plum/garnet, with a savory, open-knit, fleshy mouthfeel, it is delicious, seductive, and ideal for drinking over the next 4-5 years. Robert Parker, Wine Advocate # 189 Jun 2010

Good saturated red. Smoky, roasted, somewhat high-toned aromas of redcurrant, maraschino cherry, mocha, coffee grounds and earth. A bit tight in the mouth, with an odd mixture of exotic and green components. A bit medicinal and tough on the finish. Showing very much as it did a year ago from barrel.
