The dark ruby/purple-colored 1998 Chateauneuf du Pape is a good introduction to what Michel Maret produces. It offers up textbook aromas of kirsch, roasted nuts, and jammy black cherries. Spicy and well-made, with medium to full body and excellent purity, this is a tasty, generously-endowed wine to drink over the next 7-10 years.
