Score 94/100 · Drink 2015-2020, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Nov 2015
Vietti's 1985 Barolo Brunate is in a gorgeous spot where the tannins have softened and all the elements have matured with grace. Layered and deeply spiced, the 1985 Brunate delivers a fabulous drinking experience today. Dried flowers, spices, Christmas cake and worn-in leather all lift from the glass, with veins of rustic, chewy old-school tannins. Many observers consider 1985 the first vintage that ushered in the drier, warmer weather that has become the norm rather than the exception today. The 1985 Brunate has the glycerin feel and open-knit personality of a warm vintage. I don't see bottles improving from here. This fully mature Barolo is ready to drink.
