Remarkably deep colour for a wine that’s nearly 30 years old. Richly nuanced nose. Racy and layered with a lacy, readable texture. Filigree impression. Fragile in an utterly good way. (JR)

Score 89-91/100 · Drink 2003-2009, Pierre Rovani, Oct 1999

The 1997 Beaune Clos des Ursules is medium-to-dark ruby-colored and offers black cherry, metal, and spice aromas. This intense, black cherry-dominated wine is medium-to-full-bodied, powerful, well-structured, and possesses outstanding richness as well as length. It will require (and merit) cellaring. Projected maturity: 2003-2009. Importer: Kobrand, Inc., New York, NY; (212) 490-9300.
